Marvel’s Punisher Now Has Thanos’ Same Origin Story

Changing a character’s motives in this way can be very controversial. Thanos and Punisher are both ruthless murderers (of course, very different scales). This was the case at first. One is due to his philosophical tendency towards nihilism, which longs for anthropomorphization of death, and the other is because he saw his family killed in a large fire. Currently, both characters are considered “selected” and are somehow manipulated by another entity. This keeps some agencies away from decision making and development. In the case of Thanos, it’s less obvious because of his relationship with his original death, but for the Panisher, it’s a big change because the traumatic events of the original story are less relevant.

Thanos and Punisher actually have a common cartoon history. Frank’s alternative future version (Cosmic Ghost Rider in the series of the same name) decides to raise baby Thanos to create a better future. The two characters now share an even greater bond, as the same Marvel writer decided to dramatically change their origins in a very similar way, creating a future of both death and bloodshed. .. Thanos When Disciplinary Both are manipulated by powerful beings to be who they are, which raises the question of how many of the massive deaths they have ever caused can really be blamed. ..

Marvel’s Punisher Now Has Thanos’ Same Origin Story

Changing the motivations of a character in this way can be very controversial. Both Thanos and the Punisher are ruthless killers (on a much different scale, of course). Originally, one became so because of a philosophical tendency toward nihilism that led him to love the personification of Death, the other because he witnessed the murder of his family in a mob shooting. Now, both characters have been manipulated in some way as a consequence of being considered the “Chosen One” by another entity, which takes some agency away from their decisions and development. In Thanos’ case, this is less evident due to his original association with Death, but for the Punisher this is a major change, as it makes the traumatic event in his origin story seem less relevant now.
Thanos and the Punisher actually have some comic book history in common, with an alternate future version of Frank (who becomes the Cosmic Ghost Rider in the eponymous series) deciding to raise baby Thanos to create a better future. The two characters now share an even more important connection, as the same Marvel writer decided to significantly alter their origins in a very similar way, making both destined for a future of death and bloodshed. Thanos and the Punisher have both been manipulated by powerful entities to become what they are, which raises the question of how much of the massive amount of death they have caused until now can be actually blamed on them.
